The SIMS award (Scholarship in Mathematics and Science) is available to incoming freshmen at DSU and offer two years of support to students who continue to meet eligibility requirements. Support is offered to meet the financial need of students defined by the Department of Education. (Cost of Attendance – Estimated Family Contribution) up to $8000. SIMS funds cover only tuition, board, room and fees.

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. To receive the scholarship students must: 1. Be enrolled full-time and majoring in Science Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) areas - Qualified majors at DSU are: Animal & Poultry Science Biology Chemistry Computer Science Environmental Science Forensic Biology Information Technology Mathematics Movement Science Physics Plant Science Pre-Engineering (any specialty) Pre-Veterinary Wildlife Management 2. Be a US citizen or permanent resident or a refugee admitted under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act 3. File the FAFSA form and have financial need (COA – EFC) of at least $2000 3. Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and have an interest in a career in mathematics, science or technology. 4. Submit an essay describing your interest and experience in science and mathematics and two letters of recommendation from a science or mathematics teacher. Once awarded, to maintain the scholarship, students will be required to remain in a STEM major, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, enroll in and attend a special seminars, courses, and attend other program meetings and events.
