| The award is presented to a national Miss America contestant wishing to pursue a career in the performing arts. The winner must have ”performing arts” as a stated ambition on her facts sheet for competition at the national level. The woman may or may not be a top ten finalist but must compete at the national level. | |

| The winner will be the non-finalist contestant with the highest talent score among those women with ”performing arts” as a stated ambition. A contestant may not win both the Bernie Wayne and the Big Mama awards. | |
