| Established to recognize and reward outstanding junior high, high school, and college-age Black and Latino string instrumentalists. | |

| This competition is open to Black and Latino instrumentalists in two divisions: junior, for participatns who are younger than 18 years of age, and senior, for participants who are at least 18 but younger than 28 years of age. All entrants must be current U.S. residents who can compete in the instrumental categories of violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Along with their applications, they must submit a preliminary audition tape that includes all of the required preliminary repertiore for their instrument category. Based on those tapes, semifinalists are invited to particpate in competitions hild at sites in Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan. | |
