| Using the New Jersey State Department of Education Schools Directory, the sponsor annually selects 10 schools (high schools and colleges/universities) from the northern half of New Jersey and 10 from the southern half of the state; applications are sent to the guidance departments at those schools. Students at those schools are then chosen to apply. Winners are selected on the basis of grades, letters of recommendations, samples or work, community service, and an essay on their interest in journalism as a career. | |
