Description:
Established in 1955 by a trust agreement of the late Aubrey Lee Brooks, these scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors from a 14-county area of North Carolina. The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority provides central administration for the Brooks Foundation.
Additional Information
To be considered for this award, a student must: Plan to enroll as full-time students in a degree-granting program at North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, or the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Permanently reside in and attend a high school in one of the following counties: Alamance, Bertie, Caswell, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Swain, or Warren. Please Note: One additional scholarship is awarded to a student from the cities of Greensboro and High Point and to a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics who is from an eligible county. Awards are made annually to 17 graduating high school seniors. Criteria include financial need, merit, leadership, character, and the will of the recipient to help himself or herself prepare for a career as a useful and informed citizen. Value The scholarship provides for an award of approximately one-half of the cost of an Undergraduate education. Brooks Scholars may also receive funding for summer internships, research or study abroad and a one-time computer allowance up to $3,000. The scholarship is renewable, provided the recipient has continued financial need, remains enrolled full time at an eligible institution, and maintains a 2.75 cumulative grade point average and good citizenship.
